Katy L. Kane

Over the course of this project I will be exploring the experiences of immigrant women in the US who have faced fear or uncertainty around deportation—whether at border crossings or in daily life. Through one-on-one studio visits, I will listen to their deeply personal stories and empathically translate their experiences into mixed media artworks that honor their resilience, complexity and strength. Using painting, collage, photography, and origami, I’ll build layered portraits that reflect individual journeys while weaving them into a collective visual narrative. This work matters deeply to me because these stories are too often silenced or politicized. I want to hold space for these women—not just to be seen, but to be remembered, understood, and celebrated.
