My project proposal is a collaboration with Intransitive, a transgender nonprofit in Arkansas, where I will create a portrait series made up of the transgender community in NWA. In a time when the dominant culture is trying to erase transgender people, this would literally give a face to the transgender community of NWA.
I am a traditional darkroom photographer. I shoot medium format black and white film, develop the negatives by hand, and make the silver gelatin prints using traditional darkroom techniques. This whole project would be shot on film and printed at the biggest size possible. My signature look is face close-ups. I can’t wait to see what these look like printed 20×24″!
I’ve never had my own studio space before. The space at the Medium would allow me to set up my photography studio on one end and have the darkroom on the other. This creates a streamlined workflow where the photos are taken, developed, and printed all in the same space. During the Visual Art Night, all the photos will be put up for display and for sale, with all proceeds going to Intransitive.
