Hello! My name is Brett, and I’m a local photographer passionate about documenting the lovely work that local organizations and mutual aid groups in Fayetteville and Springdale are doing to make our community more safe and equitable.
Over the last two years, my primary focus has been creating imagery that supports these efforts. My proposed project, Home, shines a light on the unseen lives of our unhoused neighbors. Through a photojournalistic lens, I aim to capture the candid and intimate realities of those living without housing. Stories that explore our relationship to the idea of “home.” The work will culminate in a collage-style in-studio gallery and fundraiser, inviting the community that has access to housing to engage, reflect on what home is, and participate in mutual aid. Collaborators photographed may also share their stories.
Having grown up with housing insecurity, and even living in a tent at one point with my family when I was a child, this project is deeply personal. My experiences shape the way I connect with the unhoused community. With this project I hope to help bridge the gap between housed and unhoused neighbors and offer a platform for voices too often left unheard.
