I would like to experiment with implementing quilting and sewing into visual artworks. As a member of the queer and transgender community, my work is heavily influenced by my personal experiences, as well as the current political and social climate. I have openly identified as non-binary for a few years now, but in the past year have began to feel better represented as trans nonbinary and express myself in a way that feels more authentic to my identity. In March I had top surgery and started going by the name Mo instead of Monica. I will create a series of quilted wall hangings. The wall hangings will reflect my lived experiences and explore themes of identity, community, and the complexity of gender and sexuality. My hope is to create art that will spark conversations, promote inclusivity, and provide representation for members of the queer community.
